Professor Solomon Oladele Akinboye

Professor Solomon Oladele Akinboye is a specialist in International Relations with focus on International Organisations and Foreign Policy Analysis. He has B.Sc (Hons) Economics (UNN), M.Sc International Relations, University of Ife (Now OAU), and Ph.D International Relations (University of Benin). He was an awardee of the Federal Government Scholarship at both undergraduate and doctoral levels. He was, in 2000, a recipient of the Fulbright Fellowship utilized in U.S.A. He was also, in 2006, a Visiting Scholar at Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. He was a former Head, Department of Political Science, and currently Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, UNILAG. Over the years, he has taught various courses in International Relations, conducted research in International Organisations and Foreign Policies of Nigeria and South Africa, supervised and mentored 19 Ph.D candidates, and several Masters and undergraduate students. He has served the University of Lagos in many respects including Chairmanship and Membership of various Council and Senate Committees, notable among which are Appointments and Promotions Board, Court of Governors (CMUL), Search Team as well as Selection Board for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor (UNILAG). He has served the nation in many capacities including Chairmanship of OSAMEC (Osun State), Membership of the Governing Council of Osun State University, Returning Officer for Local Government Elections, Honorary Secretary, Committee of Deans of Postgraduate Schools in Nigerian Universities. He has been Chairman and Member of several NUC Accreditation and Resource Verification Panels; External Assessor for several Professorial Appointments, External Examiner to various universities. At the international level, he was a member of the Steering Committee of the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) based in Nairobi, Kenya. He was also an expert assessor for the 1st Claude Ake best Ph.D thesis in Political Science organised by the African Association of Political Science in South Africa. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the African Integration Review of the Africa Union, Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia; and a member of the Steering Committee of the Pan-African Inter-University Conference for Doctoral Studies, Winneba, Ghana. He belongs to several professional associations including the International Political Science Association, Nigerian Political Science Association, Nigerian Society for International Affairs and National Association for Ethnic Studies (USA). He was a Reviewer of Africa Insight, Journal of the Africa Institute of South Africa, Assessor, CODESRIA Publications, Dakar, Senegal, as well as a Contributing Editor of the International Review of Politics and Development, and a Reviewer of the African Journal of Political Science and International Relations. He has attended/presented papers at several international conferences in different continents of the world including Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America. He was an awardee of some grants including KSU/Institute for Global Initiative Visiting Scholar award, University of Lagos Central Research Grant, and several research and travel grants including that of PASGR, Zain Africa Challenge, Thabo Mbeki and Africa Institute of South Africa. He has attracted a number of grants to the university including MRPP Professional Development Grant donated by PASGR, and Postgraduate Trust Fund that has attracted substantial funds to the School of Postgraduate Studies, UNILAG. He has over 80 publications to his credit.
